1. Right side facing you, hold you piece of beautiful knitting in your left hand. Insert the point of the needle through the first loop of the cast off stitch, wrap the yarn around the needle and pull the yarn through (just like a knit stitch)

2. Pick up the required number of stitches (usually one stitch for each cast on stitch, Now turn the knitting and continue in pattern.

I hope this helps and you find it useful.
My little bambino is 7 months and it is slightly too large, which is good as it will be just right when the colder months approach.

Saying that we did go to the shop this morning and it is a bit windy and rainy so I put it on him and it looked great.

As requested by Sandi I will put up some instructions for picking up knitted stitches!

Have a wonderful day everyone.
It did take me an age to get round to sewing it up. But Ta-Da - Job Done !!!!

Then I can't tell you how gutted I was when it didn't fit - yes that's right a 9-12 months pattern doesn't fit my 7 month old baby with a giant head! The neck won't fit over his head. "What is wrong with my baby's head?" - panic - measuring tape out - PHEW nothing wrong with his perfectly normal size head.

STUPID STUPID Pattern. Now this was a free pattern from a reputable company who I have contact and informed them of my motherly panic.

Now as I am newish to knitting this was the first time I had picked up stitches. I used a circular needle and found this really quiet awkward - but managed it and to good effect. I have since discovered after flicking through an old issue of knit toady that I did this totally wrong. However, this was not why the jumper didn't fit. All is now clear and I am looking forward to trying my newly learnt skill.

Now what to do with the silly little neck on said jumper. Well, scissors and needle in hand. I witnessed all animals and adults retreat to the shed for some pottering. I snipped and sewed and made a button hole. Selected a contrasting button and here we have one cute little jumper that now fastens at the back of the neck and fits over all giant baby heads.

I can hardly believe it. Firstly, thank you to all that still pop by. I have been keeping up with your blogs, just about. Life has been very hectic. Hospital visits with our lovely baby boy, well not so much of a baby 7 months now. He is teething at the moment and not sleeping at all well.

I am running the business on my own at the moment along with being Mum and housewife. It is very very busy and a bit of a juggling act but we are getting there. Mr is helping out a company with a 2 million pound contract for a top company in London. He is a cabinet maker by trade and ran his own successful business for 13 years. So they needed a pro and he certainly is that. So he is back doing what he really loves for the next few months at least.

I have managed some crochet and some knitting which I will blog about over the next few days. I have started to knit some toys for the boys at the request of my 3 year old who wanted a knitted Fireman Sam, Monster, and an alien. So this is testing my skills and I am learning loads.

Happy Monday

I used 5mm needles and a dk acrylic yarn, but I would imagine you could use whatever yarn and relevant needles you like.

Cast on 20 sts (I used the thumb method)

Row 1 Knit

Row 2 (RS) K1 *yf, k1 rep from * to end.

Row 3 and every following alt row Purl

Row 4 Knit

Row 6 K1, *yf, k1 * to end (this creates a little eyelet in the work – very pretty)

Row 8 K1, *yf, k1* rep to end

Cast off 20 sts at the beginning of the next 6 rows, then cast off remaining stitches. I knitted all 6 rows.

At this point the work looks a little strange, but it soon takes shape. I worked a row of running stitch along the cast on edge of the rose and pulled tight to make the flower.

Voila one knitted rose.

Let me know if you make any, and let me know if the pattern makes sense!
I am now the very proud owner of a LUMIX FS10 Panasonic Camera. It’s lovely. I can’t wait to learn to use it properly. I have a little play last night and look what I did!

This is a little rose that I knitted. I have never knitted a flower before, so thought I would give this one a go. My Mum used to make these when I was little, so she showed me what to do.

I will write the pattern up so you can give it a try. It’s very easy and I learnt something new when making this. Which is always a good thing!

I am hoping to finish this over the weekend and deliver it next week.
And this is the current work on the needles a beanie style hat to be embroidered with our DJS logo. A bit boring I know it’s for a member of the DJS Team to wear when he is working in France at a lake.

I took these pics last night so my little camera did well. I also took about 100 pics of the kids now I just have to learn to edit them with the software, so looking forward to trying that out.

Hopeyou all have a great weekend and I will try to post the kintted rose pattern over the next few days.
I'm a little excited about today's post. I have finally after many many many attempts become a knitter! Yes folks it's official. My Mum has asked me to make something for her. This from my Mum is something because she is the best knitter I know!

I have been busy making baby hats. This all started when I came across a beautiful baby hat by crochet with raymond and as I have my very own little baby I thought I better make one. Well I couldn't stop the whole family has them now and people keep asking me to make hats for them too!

Well Alice has posted many beautiful knitted and crochet tutorials so I had a go at her teapot cozy and that is what my Mum has asked me to make. So her4e are a few pics to show you what I have been up to.

My camera has really had it so I am using a really old one and well I just don't like it and I don't think it likes me very much.

Perhaps I will get my own camera for my Birthday - but I have to wait for April for that!

Thanks for visiting
I do try to keep up with all your blogs though!

Life is a wee bit busy at the moment. Little D has an excellent routine and is three months old today and growing so very fast. Fits nicely into 6-9 months! His big brother loves him so very much.

My time at the moment is spent trying to catch up with the business and running home and kids - I haven't had much time for crochet, I have done a bit and am getting into my knitting a bit more now - making baby hats and little jackets. I'm getting a bit better with practice. I will post some pics when I can get my hands on the significant other's camera. My broke well before Christmas, but Santa forget me!

I hope that you are all well and I will try to post at least once a week from now on. That is my new year's resolution - let's see how long I keep that one for.

I am sorry it has taken so long for me to get round to writing a little post. As some of you are aware we had a beautiful baby boy on the 29th October weighing in at 91lb 15oz. Another whopper of a son.

We went in at 7.30am for a 9.00am slot, which was delayed due to emergencies so we arrived in theatre at 5.00pm that evening. I was one very dehydrated and hungry lady by that point. I had a bit of struggle in theatre with my blodd pressure dropping very low (probably due to the fact my last meal was 7.00pm on the 28th) My recovery was a little slow and the first night in hospital was spent with my head over a bowl - not very nice.

My new little man had to be kept underobservation for the Group B Step risk, and unfortunately on day two our return to home he developed a nasty eye infection and a bit of a cold. However, antibiotic drops and lots of cuddles he is doing rather grand now!

His weight droped to 9lb 1oz in the first week, during this week I have had at the most an hours sleep per night as he has done nothing but feed, he has now regained his birth weight. So hopefully thing will beome slightly easier in the coming days.

As you can imagine I am a bit tired. I do feel better now I am not doubled over and the wound is healing beautifully. So starting to feel a bit human again. I have managed to do a wee bit of crochet today but it is slow going.

Son no. 1 has fallen totally in love with his baby brother, but his behavour towards Mummy has not been so good. He ignored me for two days and the only word which left his mouth was NO! Things are getting better now and I am paying him as much attention and cuddles as I can.

I am looking forward to catching up with everyones blogs as soon as I can.

Thank you to everyone for your lovely comments and well wishes and special thanks to Fiona of Patchwork delights and Clara of Claras crochet Room for posting about my new arrival.

Much Love

Clare x
We don't know what we are having so looking forward to a nice surprise.

Just popping in to say a big thank you for all your recent comments. I have been looking forward to this week, at last a week free of appointments before the week of delivery and mayhem!

However, we are a poorly household. The head cold has moved to a hacking cough and chest infections. All three of us have been quiet poorly. I still feel very rough and have been like this for over a week now. There still seems like so much needs to be done, but hey I suppose it can wait and will have to. Then to top the lot my little man said to me yesterday that he was hot and itchy, this morning he appeared with a few spots on his face and body trip to the docs and chicken pox confirmed. Could do without that!

I feel I can let you in to a little secret I have hated this pregnancy. There seems to have been so many things going wrong and I have just felt so ill for such a long time now. I will really be pleased once it is all over. I do feel guilty for saying this. I guess I just don’t do pregnancy well! The guilt comes hard to me as I know that there are many out there who cannot have babies or struggle to. This included me once. I had three consecutive miscarriages before my little man came along. So please do not get me wrong I do consider myself to be very lucky. Now enough of feeling sorry for myself how about a little peak of what I have been up to.

I may just do a bit of crochet and sit continually blowing my nose and trying to get little man to blow his nose.

At 2 ½ years old he seems to think that wiping his nose on his sleeve is ok! Well with me it is not. I guess if I keep nagging him I may get somewhere or maybe not. What’s that I hear all those experienced Mum’s out there sniggering.

Now on to the Ta-dah!

My Granny Stripe blanket is complete and now sits proudly on my bed. I decided to finish the top with some large granny squares with flowers in the centre. Now this pattern came from the internet and I am afraid I can no longer remember who wrote it or where I found it. I will keep looking as I do remember reading that if this is used please put a link to their pattern and do not reproduce it yourself! So I will keep looking. I think it finishes it of nicely and gives it that something extra. What do you think?

I was very unsure about the colours in this blanket, the wool was given to me last April as a birthday pressie from my Mum. Talking of wool. I have made a little internet purchase well a massive bag of wool arrived this week. Very excited just waiting to turn it into something special. There is an awful lot of it, so another blanket I think. There are lots of colour a good mix of lilacs, blues, greens, pinks and a couple of reds. Depending on the sex of the baby will depend of what colours I start off with. Talking of sex – no I mean boy or girl, I was asked if I knew what I was having and that got me thinking as I don’t, I thought it might be nice to run a little blog guessing game.

Yes guess the sex and the weight. There will be some clue’s in a previous post as to the sort of size expected so you may need to have a little read back. The due date is 29th October by c-section. So let me have your guesses and when I am back and running with a routine and sensible head the nearest to it will get a little something in the post – yes sort of like a giveaway. I will do a proper post on this probably next week. Which I will imagine will be my last post before the day. I am getting a little nervous and a bit of excitement may be creeping in now!

Well after all that talking I have worn myself out, so I think coffee, sandwich and feet up for a bit of hooky time.

Much love and again thank you for stopping by.

Thank you for popping by and a big thank you to everyone for their quotes and comments. I really enjoyed reading through them.

I hope you all had a good weekend. We did, the weather was good and the gardening got done – not by me I may add. I did a bit of supervision though! I awoke on Monday with a horrible head cold, little man has had his for about a week or so!. I need to shift mine pretty quick as next week is my last week at home before the baby comes!

Anyhow back to the business of the giveaway. My little man helped me to cut the names out and we folded them up and put them in a bowl. He was very good and chose only one! Unfortunately we have no photos of this as he was a bit too quick!

The winner is Jacey and her quote is Hard work won't kill you....but why take the risk!!

Jacey's blog is http://coffeencrochet.blogspot.com/

Jacey can you email me your address then I can post your goodies off to you.

Well off to the midwife for a check up now. Will post pics later this week of my finished Granny stripe blanket which has taken forever, but I think it looks great, just pleased I have finished it before delivery day!

Have a good week everyone
5. Bedtime reading Blankets and Throws to knit by Debbie Abrahams
6. & 7. Thought I would show you my 1st attempt at pottery it's a honey pot beehive I have other items which I will show you next week.
8. My Christmas Dress - well hoping I will manage to get in it!
9. Little Hooky time before sleep.

Thursday was a day for relaxing, well it was supposed to be. These relaxing days don't really happen, so I made sure I had a me time evening and it was lovely.

Followed by Friday not much happened, Saturday was busy, then on Sunday we had to take our little man to the Hospital, it turned out after a lot of panicking he has had an allergic reaction to what we don't know but affected breathing and massive red and white blotchy rash all over his body and face. Poor little thing. On top of that he has tonsillitis - again!!!!!!

Monday saw my visit to the consultant and scan. At 35/36 weeks baby is already weighing in at approx 8lbs so estimated birth weight is over 10llb. Little man was 10lb 3oz so with that in mind and group B strep, they have agreed to a c-section on 29th October! Its a little weird knowing when my baby will be born, but big surprise will be whether its a boy or a girl.

The little man and I are in our PJ's still and I think we will still be that way for most of the day! Nice really.

Little man kept me awake most of the night with a barking cough - like a dog. Poor little thing has croup. His chest is rattling as well, but he is still well enough to make a mess and play with soldiers.

Hope you and yours are well and have a great weekend

Love

It seems such an age since I really managed to sit down and take the time to write about something interesting.

First things first: Health wise, I am very fed up to say the least with the constant trips to the hospital, doctors and midwife and nobody seems to know what is wrong! Ah ha, today I visited Mr Doc and he was looking up some of my results and said to me "Have you started feeling better now, Scarlet Fever can be a bit nasty"

Well, I never why couldn't somebody have told me that was what was wrong. They only told me I was severely anemic?????????? It goes a long way to explaining why I didn't feel so good!

The other thing is that last Friday I was told I have Group B Step, which means I will have to have antibiotics before and during labour so not to pass it to the baby. It can be very dangerous if the baby gets it. I won't go in to full details as I got a bit upset about this last week. If you want to know more about it, you can visit here Group B Step Complications

On to better things - CROCHET!!!!!

I have not managed to do much on my granny stripe blanket but I have made a couple of scarves and a Southern Comfort Shawl inspired by Cornpoppygirl.

The better half has finished the first stage of decorating upstairs and we are returning to some sort of normality. The only thing is he doesn't realise we have stages two and three also.

I have lots of little WIP's going on and whenever possible I am trying to make a few things for my Etsy shop. I have completed a couple of pillowcases and just need to photograph these. I have also made one for myself which I am loving snuggling up to on the couch.

Ah yes, before I forget I am also working on a little giveaway which I hope will be ready to show you next week.

The weather is not great here today so photos and very dark. We do have a great little studio in our attic with a area set up for photography with lights and photoboxes and everything else you would need. Unfortunately we have a pull out ladder for access, and I am far to big and unsteady on my feet to get up there so I am afraid dark shots it is.
Have a great weekend everyone and hope you find some crafty time too.
